Princess Capybara

Age: 35

Background: Biotech

Current Gig: Mold-Making

Zattatude: Seeks to geek out with the top tech she knows best

Only in her 30s, Princess Capybara is already a serial entrepreneur! Her first business really boomed when the biotech startup she launched scored the proof of concept, patents, and corporate buyout that let her cash in on her dreams. With this newfound financial freedom on her side, the still-young and ambitious Princess is looking to build her next empire in the world of concrete coasters, silly wine glasses, and more!

Gary

Age: 44

Background: Accounting

Current Gig: Baking

Zattatude: Lives to figure out how everything in life adds up

Gary may take comfort in doing things by the numbers, but he also likes to mix things up from time to time. Though his accounting degree has granted him steady work and financial security, at the end of the day he’s happy to slip out of his suit and tie and into a chef’s apron. Now he’s cooking up a plan to turn his passion for baking into a mail-order cookie business he can jump into full-time. Gary looks forward to the day when the only hot deadline comes when the timer rings on the tasty new job he’ll take long before he burns out on his current one.

Process Cat

Age: Timeless

Background: Manufacturing

Current Gig: Helping People

Zattatude: Loves to teach others how to scale up their businesses

Process Cat started his career by using his knack for big-picture thinking to excel as a Manufacturing Engineer for a multinational corporation. But while his talent for designing and operating manufacturing systems produced big results and profits, he’s always been more interested in solving problems for people than corporations. Now he’s sharing the lessons he learned from big business to help keep smaller companies humming happily along.

Rhonda

Age: 53

Background: Nursing

Current Gig: Woodworking

Zattatude: Celebrates ditching her bureaucratic hospital job for her hands-on craft business

Rhonda has the kind of head and heart that made her a standout nurse in the OR. But when the hospital offered her early retirement, she decided the day to take her final shift had come. She treated herself to a bit of travel before coming home to take a few classes at the college in town. She really got into a groove with woodworking and now sells her hand-tooled creations at craft fairs and online. And though Rhonda’s happy with her small-scale business, she’s as interested as she’s always been in learning all she can about operational efficiency.

Notes on the crew and characters who keep Zattatat’s world spinning…

M.G. RHOADS

Writer, Inker & Owner of Zattatat

M.G. Rhoads is a Manufacturing Engineer with an MS in Material Science Engineering who has worked as a research technician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and as a Process Development Engineer at the medical device company, Illumina.

When curiosity led her to visit some local maker spaces, M.G. became a little sad because the ingenuity and enthusiasm of the creators she met was not being complemented by the access to information on running a good manufacturing PROCESS (information well-known to big companies!) that could help these inspired innovators scale up for success.

M.G. Decided to draw upon her professional manufacturing experience, skills as both a writer and educator, and creative sense of humor to provide the fun, functional information that could engage and educate creators of all kinds with the business-building resources they deserved.

M.G. lives with her husband in Portland, Maine, where she enjoys working out (really!), drinking red wine, and watching standup comedy.

DIANA NECSULESCU

Colorist

Diana Necsulescu is a self-taught illustrator and visual development artist living in Bucharest.

She embraces the creative challenge of creating intricately layered visual universes that envision a more welcoming, equitable, and caring world — and her affinity for color, her most useful tool for transforming stories into rich visual universes, is the only thing that rivals her curiosity.

Diana spends her days illustrating children’s books, developing style frames & environments, and doing animation art direction — which can only happen when one of her rescue animals isn’t busy doing admin work at her desk.

Mary Scott

Developer

Mary Scott is a web developer with more than 20 years of experience helping businesses harness the technology that can serve their particular needs. She enjoys work that feeds her curiosity and challenges her with the learning needed to grow in new directions. Those sensibilities inspire her continuing efforts to optimize the Zattatat website for the user experiences that can best support the needs of our maker audience. In her downtime, Mary has put her love of crocheting to use in creating 117 blankets for babies in various hospitals to help ensure their warm start in life.

Danko herrera

Penciler

Danko Herrera studied industrial design in Mexico and Denmark. After spending a sabbatical year backpacking, he and a group of his traveling companions founded “Sombrerero,” an artists’ collective, which features a collection of some of Danko’s short tales. Today, Danko works as a freelance illustrator, supporting a variety of authors and companies such as Rockademix, Indie Publishing Group, Jeff Rivera, Arnie Lightning, and (of course) Zattatat.

Danko’s creative curiosity extends to his study of ancient Egyptian language and performance on the clarinet, didgeridoo, and throat singing. You can visit Danko’s website and follow him on Instagram.
